Robert Thomas has been practicing various martial arts throughout his life and began teaching self defense as a lifestyle 20 years ago. He created his own unique brand of personal protection in 2010, and Tsunami Self Defense Systems was born. The business celebrated its 15th year in business in 2025.

 

Our mission is to help all people live safer and healthier lives, through empowerment based self-defense defense and a proactive approach to personal protection.  

 

Robert is certified instructor under Steve Kardian in his 'Defend University' women's Self-Defense courses. Kardian's courses are the nation's leading women's classes to reduce the odds of sexual assault and abduction. 

 

Thomas has been named "Self-Defense Instructor Of The Year" on two different occasions: *2014 & 2017 by The World Karate Union - Hall Of Fame. In 2025, Tsunami Self-Defense Systems LLC. was honored by the WKUHOF as "Organization Of The Year." Robert was also inducted into the 'International Circle of Martial Arts Masters' in 2015, as an ambassador for the martial arts around the world. Thomas, a 3rd degree black belt in Shinko-Ryu also holds additional belt rank and certifications in other martial arts and Combatives Systems. He now trains with some of the top reality based street defense instructors in the country; Including: Rory Miller, Kelly McCann, Tony Blauer, Steve Kardian and more.
